*****

Although I reckoned he was straight Chanel wasn’t a shy boy and he often walked around our dorm room naked. As he once said to me, “We’re both boys.” But one morning he caught me looking at his rather thick cock and he said in his lilting accent – “What’re you looking at Jay?”

“I was just trying to work out whether your cock is cut or uncut.”

“What does it matter?”

“Just curious, that’s all.”

Now Dear Reader, I wouldn’t blame you for wondering about all this. Surely its fairly straight forward working out whether a guy is circumcised or not? Well, as I was soon to discover, even the most seemingly simple situations in this life can turn complex in a jiffy. Now Chanel took hold of his cock and I noticed it was getting stiff.

“Hey bro” he said, laughing. “I don’t want you getting any ideas because I’ve got a hard-on. I get stiff untold times every day and that’s why I have to jack-off when no-one’s looking. So I don’t want you to go thinking I’ve got the hots for you.” He laughed then said – “Look, you can grab hold of it if you like. It’s just a cock. It’s not gonna bight you.”

Astonished at this development I took hold of the pulsing shaft which was well on its way to becoming as thick as a sauce bottle.

“Now do you see that bit of skin?”

He did indeed have a very short rim of skin that covered the prominent ridge of his cock head when he was soft. But now that the cock was filling fast it had receded, revealing the glistening ridge.

“My big brother Alvin told me that I had the operation when I was a baby but the medicine man was pissed when he was wielding the knife so I got left with this little bit of skin. But hey, I was so young I don’t remember. I just gotta say I don’t mind being this way bro. I suppose you could say I’ve got the best of both worlds. Go on, have a good feel.”

Writers’ Block

shutterstock_218829529

It might sound as if I’m stating the obvious but I’ve found that the best cure for the condition known as ‘writers’ block’ is to just go ahead and write. Of course it is the easiest thing in the world for an author to find an excuse NOT to write. Hungover? A bit of a headache coming on? Broken up with the boyfriend? I have a target of 1500 words a day. It’s rather strange but I sometimes do my best work when I’m not feeling very fit and I make myself sit down at the keyboard and force myself to write. Some of my best ideas have materialized when I’ve not really felt up to the task.

William Somerset Maugham was a master novelist, dramatist and short story writer. I think he’s probably a bit out fashion these days but during the 1930’s he was the best-selling author in the world. Several films have been made out of his yarns. Maugham had a pretty eventful life. He trained as a medical doctor before taking up writing. He also worked as a spy for the British Government during the First World War and he travelled extensively throughout Asia. These adventures gave him a great deal of material for his stories.

Even if he had no idea of what he was going to write Somerset Maugham would force himself to sit at his desk each morning. If no words came to him he would simply write his own signature over and over again until the ideas started to flow. He was a very prolific writer and towards the end of his life he would often completely forget what he’d written in previous years. There was an occasion when he was having lunch with his literary agent in Paris. Full of excitement he told his friend of a brand new story he was going to work on – it would involve adultery and espionage. After he’d revealed the plot to his companion the agent shook his head and said, “I’m afraid it won’t do Willie. You wrote that novel twenty five years ago.”

GAY MOMENTS: The Boys of Summer

I didn’t have to be asked twice. I took hold of the ridge of skin and pulled it as far forward as it would go. At the same time I took hold of the boy’s rather full balls.

“Oh, I like that… you’ve got a great touch bro. Just a little more pressure on the balls. That’s great Jay. Now give me a look at yours.”

Now this was a totally unexpected development. Did it mean my room-mate was gay after all? Did it mean I was gay?

“But you’ve seen it heaps of times Chanel. In the bathroom when I’m taking a shower.”

“Yeah but not real close-up. Fair is fair. Hey, you’ve still got my dick in your hand.”

“One of the things I liked about Josie was that she didn’t mince her words. I rattled on about Michel and his poetry and thinking back to our conversation I recall her looking at me across the candle light rather archly. She probably thought I was becoming obsessive. But that didn’t stop me…

“You should see him Josie. He’s really cute with this shaggy blonde hair…”

“Well, Euro boys”… she said rather dreamily.

“He told me his cock is cut but I haven’t managed to get a look –“

Oh my God! What the fuck? I’d completely forgotten I was talking to a GIRL.

“Aw, Jeeze, I’m sorry Josie, I didn’t think –“

“Don’t worry about it Jody” she laughed. “I feel complimented – as if I’m being treated as one of the boys.”

“You’ll be thinking I’m a real fucking pain –“

“Not a bit of it.” Now she lowered her voice to a kind of a purr. “Perhaps it’s your subconscious working on you, encouraging you to tell me how you feel about this boy.”

“You think I’m gay?”

“I know you’re gay Jody.”

“You mean that time in the park?”

“No, not then…I certainly didn’t know anything about whether people were gay or straight back then. We were just two kids playing “I’ll Show You Mine If You’ll Show Me Yours.”

“If I remember correctly I didn’t keep my side of the bargain” I said rather lamely.

“Well you were a very shy boy. I remember feeling cheated but I was a real little minx and I hope I’ve grown up a bit since then.” Josie tipped her head back and laughed. “Besides, maybe it would have been an unequal kind of a bargain.”

“What d’you mean?”

“Well in that department, down there, I’ve often felt that guys have an awful lot more to show off – once you take the cock and the balls into account.”

I was suddenly flooded by a warm emotion and I reached out across the table and took Josie’s hand. I really liked her and I was feeling magnanimous. What the hell? If I didn’t get anywhere with Michel in the near future and had to come to the regretful conclusion that he really was straight, maybe I could introduce him to Josie. Just a thought. They’d make a handsome couple I considered.

“Maybe you’d like to meet him” I said.

“Well, you know with my studies… besides I think you should persevere.”

“You reckon?”

“Sure. Why was he telling you about his cock? Perhaps he was sending you a kind of a signal. Maybe he’s just a bit shy. If he starts going on about it again insist on having a look and don’t take “no” for an answer.”

I was beginning to feel that Josie was certainly one of my favourite women and if she wanted to be an honorary “boy” that was fine with me.”

Terrific Gay Romance

shutterstock_135901010

‘My High School Boyfriend’ by Gary Cottle is one of the best ‘coming of age’ gay romances I’ve read for quite a while. As the story begins, young Glen Farris, the only child of strict church-going parents, is having a miserable time at high school. His whole world changes when a new kid, stylish Shannon Dupree, arrives from New York City. The characters of the two boys are vividly drawn. I could see them in my mind’s eye as I followed them through the narrative. In the latter half of the book the parents of Glen are developed to an astonishing level helping to make this a minor masterpiece.

Like the best authors working in this genre (such as Anthony McDonald) Gary Cottle is skilful at establishing the time and place of the story and we follow the boys through the schools, the ghost towns, the shopping malls and the national parks of West Virginia. The story is set in the 1980’s and I delighted in scenes such as the one where the two young lovers attend a midnight screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I must admit that I had a few misgivings as I read through the story because the two boys who obviously adored each other weren’t having sex. Would this really be the case with two gay teenage boys who spent most of their free time together? But then as I went further into the narrative this seemed so right for these two particular boys. I recalled reading a story recently about two teenage boys in a state of the U.S.A that allows same-sex marriage who declared they wouldn’t have sex until they were married.

One minor quibble – when the sex between the two boys in the story finally happens the author uses such coy terms as ‘whatsis’ and ‘back door’ to describe body parts. Why not call a cock a cock? But that is a very minor criticism. I feel that ‘My High School Boyfriend’ should be recommended to any teenage boys who may be having problems with their sexuality or issues with coming out. Even today too many teenagers in the Land Down Under harm themselves because of these problems.

FREE BOOK: Boy Works

shutterstock_160964474

My recent book, Boy Works, number three in the GAY MOMENTS series, will be available for FREE download from Amazon Kindle from Thursday the 12th of March until Monday the 16th of March inclusive. Here is an extract –

“It all began at Steam Works. I’d better explain. Steam Works is actually a gay sauna situated in Sussex Street, Sydney. At a rough guess I would have to say that it’s probably one of the most luxuriously appointed gay saunas anywhere in the world. Not that I consider myself an expert but I am familiar with similar establishments in Asia and in other parts of the Land Down Under. I’ve not experienced any saunas in the Americas and I have only visited one rather grotty establishment in the Waterloo district of London during a fleeting visit. Now Vienna is another story. Whilst I was in the divine city teaching drama in an international school I got into the habit of visiting the Kaiserbrundl sauna which is situated in the old historical part of the city. Kaiserbrundl is definitely the oldest bath house in Vienna. It gets its current name from the fact that it was visited by several reigning European monarchs during the nineteenth century. The establishment has a baroque feel about it, like many of the historical buildings in Vienna. Many of the boys’ cocks that I encountered there were pretty baroque as well. I don’t think I’ve come across any more fulsome foreskins anywhere else in the world. I have a kind of a theory. I think the colder the climate, the more generous the foreskins on guys. All those folds of skin are needed to protect sensitive cock heads from icy conditions. I’ve found that as you get closer to the equator foreskins become shorter and neater. Next time you visit Singapore or Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok why not test my theory? Thai boys in particular usually have pretty short foreskins. However as you travel in a northerly direction I’ve noticed that in places like Hong Kong foreskin lengths are likely to be medium in length. Further north still on the Chinese mainland in cities like Nanjing or Beijing the skins become longer. I cannot produce any scientific evidence to support my theory, let’s just say that it’s based on personal observation. One of these days I might do a PHD on the subject. Nah, just joking.

Now this is not just a rant about a couple of my fixations, saunas and foreskins. It has a lot to do with the story I am about to tell. My name is Bryan Cooper and my day job is working as a free-lance journalist. On the side I write steamy gay erotic stories just like this one. From time to time I also work in theatre, if and when the opportunity arises, as an indie director or actor. I’ve also tried my hand at writing a couple of plays without a great deal of success. Would you believe I’ve also done quite a bit of modelling? Now I would be the first to point out that I’m no hunk. However my agent tells me that I have a kind of cute, vulnerable look that attracts the pink dollar. Well, I guess it takes all kinds…

I first heard about the Steam Works sauna when I was in my final year at Balmain Senior High School. A gay boy in my class called Steve had gone there with some boys from another school as a kind of a dare. They were thrown out by the management when one of the lads tried to take photos with his mobile phone. Steve wouldn’t tell me if he’d had his cock sucked or not. However he was able to tell me enough about the place to make me curious.”

The Importance of Being Oscar

shutterstock_239399302

I’ve recently been reading Teleny which has been ‘attributed’ to Oscar Wilde. Published in London in 1893 the book has been hailed as an early example of gay erotica. I fell in love with the works of Oscar Wilde when I was in junior high school. Surely his play The Importance of Being Earnest is one of the most perfect comedies for the stage ever written.

Although it has been claimed that Teleny was authored by Wilde, it is much more likely to have been written by a small group of associates. It is more than likely that Wilde was a member of this group, however whether or not he was actually one of the authors or played an editorial role has never been proven. Charles Hirsch, a London erotic bookseller and original publisher of Teleny cast some light on the group – “A few days later one of the young gentlemen I had seen with Wilde handed me a package and said ‘Would you kindly give this to one of our friends who will call for it in a few days time.'” Hirsch reported that this process was repeated several times before it finally made its way back to Wilde. The book seller defied strict instructions not to open the package and he discovered a manuscript that had obviously been written by several different hands.

The story concerns a young Parisian business man who falls in love with a Hungarian classical pianist, Rene Teleny. The two men realize that they are linked by a strange sexual telepathy and their relationship has tragic consequences.

Teleny is reputed to have transcended its crude pornographic origins by creating characters that are complex and well developed. Although the writing is certainly inconsistent some of the more imaginative passages display wit and erudition that could certainly have been contributed (or at least inspired by) Wilde. Curiously for a novel that has been described as belonging to the genre of gay erotica much of the sex in the first half of the story is actually very heterosexual. There is a great deal of description of “lower frontal lips encased in hair” and so on. Actually much of the hetero sex is pretty gross.

When the two young guys eventually get together the descriptions of their encounters are very graphic and at times quite arresting and beautiful. For fans of of the gay erotic genre this early classic should be of some interest.
